When Its Time, Beginning Sleep Training: When, How and Why
How to Fight Against SIDS and Fear
Infant sleep training is highly recommended to prevent the baby from having sleep problems in the future. If an infant is not properly trained to sleep from the onset, that sleep disorder will persist even as a toddler. This training requires a lot of time, patience and dedication on the parents' part. If done effectively, it yields great results for both parents and the baby. An array of infant sleep training methods is available for parents who face these issues, which is great, because they will certainly find a program that best suits the needs of their child. I cannot stress enough the importance of teaching your baby healthy sleep habits. Implementing them will help you greatly in this journey of motherhood. I am not a proponent of the “cry-it-out” (CIO) method. I believe baby crying comes with the territory, but I am not comfortable with letting a newborn cry for an extended period of time without comforting them. A newborn should not be left alone to cry for more than five minutes. While others vouch for the CIO method, I feel its effects could be troubling for the child long term as it can breed rejection issues. However, CIO may be appropriate for older babies who have already mastered sleeping throughout the night. I would be more than happy to discuss in detail my approach and philosophy regarding sleep schedules with prospective clients.
